Brand We Love: Paradigm Design

If you’ve spent some time at Prism, chances are you know Paradigm Design. A longtime Prism favorite and fellow Long Beach local, the jewelry brand has been part of our boutique for years—and we’ve loved watching founder Meg Sullivan grow it along the way.

Brand We Love: Paradigm Design

A Long Beach resident for nearly 20 years, Meg lives in North LB with her husband, 4-year-old daughter Sunshine, a dog, and two cats. Her jewelry-making journey started in 2011, when she took some metalsmithing classes to learn the basics. At the time, she was working at a boutique in LA, where the owner graciously let her sell her jewelry. “Seeing the customers' reactions to my jewelry gave me the motivation to get my designs in more stores and in front of more people,” she says. By 2015, she’d left the boutique and gone full-time with Paradigm, selling at markets and focusing on growing the wholesale side of the business.

Over the years, Paradigm Design has evolved right alongside Meg. What started with a handful of wholesale accounts, an Etsy shop, and regular markets eventually grew into a larger wholesale business, with sales reps, trade shows, showrooms, and multiple collections each year. But these days, she’s taking a more intentional approach to the brand.

“In a way, the brand is really just an extension of myself and my creativity,” Meg says. “So there have been many pivot points and changes in direction.” Now, she’s less focused on simply producing for the sake of wholesale and more interested in making pieces that genuinely excite her—including limited runs, one-of-a-kind designs, and more pieces featuring silver and stones.

For Meg, the best part of jewelry is the meaning we give it. “More often than not, the wearer feels some kind of sentimental connection to a piece, which then makes it more than just jewelry,” she says. A piece can become “a memento or keepsake, something they can pass down,” or simply a way to express who they are. “The power of being able to express yourself, however quietly, with just a piece of jewelry is the feeling I hope to capture in each design.”

That sentiment is paired with a distinctly West Coast point of view. “I’m forever inspired by the ocean, starry skies, and that carefree feeling,” Meg says. Lately, she’s been especially drawn to seashells, Mother of Pearl, and Abalone—all of which found their way into the exclusive Paradigm x Prism collaboration.

“These pieces were super enjoyable to make,” she says. “I get a rush every time I make a one-of-a-kind piece,” and there are several in the capsule. “I really just had fun with this collab, and hopefully that joy is what’s coming through!”

You can shop the exclusive Paradigm Design x Prism collaboration, along with other handcrafted, one-of-a-kind pieces, in-store and online during the limited-time pop-up.
