How We Work in Dickies

Since its inception in 1922, Dickies has been synonymous with workwear. They started as a small bib overall company and have since grown into the largest workwear manufacturer in the world, making high-quality pieces that have become iconic closet staples worn for everything and by everyone. We tapped members of our community with a variety of careers to ask how they wear their Dickies.

What do you do for work? 

I am the co-owner of Mount Sunny, a doctor of acupuncture and Chinese medicine.

What do you do for fun? 

For fun I enjoy being in my kitchen, spending time with horses in the desert, and taking long baths.

What’s your fave Dickies style and what do you love about it? 

My favorite Dickies style is the Black Relaxed Overalls. I love that the relaxed fit invites both work and play.

What are some of your fave tools (digital or physical) for getting your job done? 

My hands, a gua sha spoon, and the element of fire.

What keeps you motivated? 

My motivation comes from my patients and my practice, constantly wanting to grow and learn more to be of better service to them.

What do you do for work?

I am a full-time artist and graphic designer. My work ranges from paint to digital illustrations to typography art. My current work has been more digital and is known for the spread of positive and self love messages. The messages in my artwork reflect who I am, my passion for creating, and my healing journey. 

What do you do for fun?

Besides creating art, I love to be in nature. It’s so pure and so peaceful. I also love to travel, it could even be to a different city and I’ll be excited. As I’m getting older, I find that simple things are the most fun to me. Having a simple picnic with loved ones can make me so happy. And lastly, I just got a baby leopard gecko so I’ve been spending my time getting to know him and bond with him. 

What’s your fave Dickies style and what do you love about it?

I’ve always been a big fan of Dickies ever since I was in middle school. I would have to say my favorite would be the White Cuffed Coveralls. They are extremely comfortable. That’s my number one rule for clothes these days: it has to be comfy. The coveralls are so comfortable and they serve a function as well. I could put my paint brushes in the inner pockets which makes it easier for me to grab while painting.

What are some of your fave tools (digital or physical) for getting your job done?

I can’t live without my iPad Pro and my Apple pencil! Apple pencil is an essential tool. My favorite programs to use for work are Procreate, Photoshop and Illustrator for my artwork. When I’m painting something small or a mural, my favorite tool has to be a pencil. I know, so silly. For me, I work best when outlining my work in pencil before I paint it. 

What keeps you motivated?

I know this might sound cliche, but living keeps me motivated. I went through unfortunate health issues last year and not only did it affect me physically, it affected me mentally. I’m still in the process of healing, but I have come so far. Getting through those tough and dark moments continues to keep me motivated. I’m really grateful to be able to heal each day and experience life. These motivations are definitely reflected in my artwork too.

What do you do for work?

I’m a hairstylist and the owner of Interior Hair in Los Angeles.

What do you do for fun?

Travel, host dinner parties, laugh with my friends & family.

What’s your fave Dickies style and what do you love about it?

I love the Carpenter Pant. They’re classic, comfortable and flattering.

What are some of your fave tools (digital or physical) for getting your job done?

Must have my trusty Mason Pearson brush at all times. It’s iconic for a reason! And these little clips I use to style bangs. Can’t live without those.

What keeps you motivated?

Finding joy and gratitude everyday. I’m driven towards finding the beauty in little moments or things in life. Eating well, sleep, taking care of myself & my body. As long as I feel good, I’m motivated.

Francine aka @vegamfrancine

What do you do for work?

I'm a full-time homemaker, part-time content creator and small business owner. Francine's Delivery is my hobby turned job. I make handmade beaded accessories like purses, earrings, necklaces, etc.

What do you do for fun?

In my free time I enjoy cooking (and eating!), there's nothing better to me than taking the time to put together a Mexican classic like pozole or chiles rellenos. I also love playing Animal Crossing, my mind is constantly going 100 mph and I find it to be super relaxing, as well as chilling with my cats. My husband and I have really gotten into Survivor, the reality show, and that's something I really look forward to on weekends too! In short, I live a pretty ordinary life, but I truly enjoy it.

What’s your fave Dickies style and what do you love about it?

My favorite style is the Work Crop Pant. They're so versatile and comfortable and go perfectly from work to leisure. They're such a staple in my wardrobe I have them in three different colors!

What are some of your fave tools (digital or physical) for getting your job done?

For my business I run a one-woman show, which means I design, craft, photograph and pack every order myself so it's very important to me to stay organized and on top of everything all the time. I recently got myself a nice planner and it's been a life changer. Being the Virgo Moon that I am, making lists and writing down things I need/want to do is crucial.

What keeps you motivated?

As someone who is looking for new creative stuff to do (I recently learned how to make rugs, for example), these days I rely more on self-discipline than motivation. Working from home can be difficult if you don't give yourself a routine, so having a schedule you can stick to works wonders. But on days when even that fails, knowing there's always tomorrow and I can make my day whatever I want gives me all the motivation I need.

Ceramics!

I love the Carpenter Pant and overalls because of the pockets! No need for a purse.

I have a pocket knife from Kershaw that I carry with me everywhere. 

What keeps you motivated?

Challenges in whatever I do; I love problem solving.
